Consists of correspondence, corporate records, planting lists, specifications, drawings, and photographs that reflect Marian Coffin's career in landscape architecture and her work for clients up and down the Eastern Seaboard. Her clients included: New York Botanical Garden, the University of Delaware, Connecticut College, Marshall Field, Frederick Frelinghuysen, Edward F. Hutton, William Marshall Bullitt, Childs Frick, Frederick Vanderbilt, John Morgan Wing, Lammot du Pont, Henry Francis du Pont, and H. Rodney Sharp. Correspondents represented in this collection include: Clara Coffey, Princeton Nurseries, A. Frylink & Sons, Cedar Hill Nursery, Arden Nurseries, Wohlert's Nurseries, F.H. Horsford, Frank S. Platt Co., Wadley & Smythe, Bobbink & Atkins, Brownell Rose Research Gardens, and Cross & Son, Architects. Some of the drawings are done in colored pencil. The collection also contains materials on Marian Coffin's own gardens at "Wendover" in Witch Hill, R.I. and in New Haven, Ct.

On June 6, 1908, he married Isabella Mathieu du Pont, the daughter of Lammot du Pont, Sr., thus becoming the brother-in-law of Pierre S., Henry B., Irénée, and Lammot du Pont, the leading figures in E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company. Marian Coffin was a landscape architect. She entered the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a special student in 1901 and graduated in 1904 with a concentration in fine arts and landscape design.
